Recognised the world over this view can evoke memories of film, music, art, literature and travel. The island of Manhattan has greeted those travelling up the Hudson River for millennia and has changed it’s form many times but never it’s identity – the Gateway to a new world with Lady Liberty standing proud just behind you.
Here it is brought back to basics. Though chaotic, the soaring modern towers of glass, steel and stone seem to create an oddly balanced collection as they jostle for position and then they loose height and modernity closer to the water’s edge where some of New York’s oldest buildings remain. The buildings then give way to water where the buildings and humans alike have space to breathe and bathe in sunlight.
